As the organizer of the Agile New York City user group, we are putting together a 1-day conference day in Manhattan, Wednesday September 15th. Throughout the past 3 years, we had monthly meetings with very interesting topics. These monthly events are all free events.
This September, we will try something new. We are putting together a condensed full-day conference day at Times Square (Executive Conference Center) which consists of a two-track presentation approach in the morning and an open space conference in the afternoon. We have secured a very convenient location with room for 120 participants, 4 sponsors, a keynote, open space facilitators and speakers for the track. Lunch will be served. Registration for this event has begun.

Like our free monthly events, this is a not-for-profit event, but to cover rent and food we decided to charge a small cover fee of $95 for the entire conference day. As usual, please visit AGILE NYC for more information about our monthly user group meetings as well as this 1-day agile conference day.

We have a great program lined-up before the summer break as well as the second half of 2010. For example, Rob Purdie will present an experience report of the agile transformation at the Economist 6/23 at LimeWire New York. We will announce July shortly which is currently in the planning. August is summer break where agile enthusiasts gather in Orlando this year. In the evening of 9/22 Michael Spayd will present his topic “”Blueprint for an Agile Enterprise: Plans, Tools &Techniques for Building a Human Enterprise” which is a talk he will give at Agile2010 in Orlando as well. In October, Scott Ambler is in town and he will speak Tuesday evening 10/18. In November, we welcome back Amr Elssamadisy who will share his presentation “Scaling Up by Scaling Down: Successful Agile Adoption in the Large by Focusing on the Individual” with us.

We are working on scheduling additional sessions using different formats. Registrations are open to the events mentioned above, but PLEASE register ONLY if you will be at the event. Casual registrations have the opposite effect. It will make planning harder, you will take a seat from someone who would like to join and most importantly the speakers put a lot of effort into this. We want to “sell” every seat in the house for them as we did in the past events. Spread the word and stay tuned about news and updates at www.agilenyc.org.

Two months ago the organizers of APLN-NYC decided to rename the agile user group to AgileNYC (http://www.agilenyc.org). Although we are still the local chapter for APLN in the NYC metro area, the renaming will help us in multiple ways to grow on the success of this local chapter. Especially the “P” and “L” in APLN limited us (the organizers) to attract professionals and topics other than project managers. Although we always intended it to be a diverse group with diverse set of topics, AgileNYC will better define our group going forward.
We will continue to host our monthly face-to-face meetings, but will also experiment with new formats in the second half of 2010 (e.g. lightning talks and a potential 1-day conference). Please reach out to the organizers if you have questions or comments.
